Problem Statement
- Polymerization catalyst for polymerization of Lactide monomers are either a solvent, or a co-catalyst or an elaborate ligand or non-environment friendly conditions.
- All these factors are responsible for making the polymerization reaction process laborious, expensive and complicate.
- Further in some cases the catalyst used is highly toxic thereby making the resulting polymer incompatible for bio medial application.
- So a novel polymerization catalyst which is devoid of the above said draw back is the urgent need in the state of art.
Technology
- The present patent discloses synthesis of group 4 metal aryloxy compounds as bulk polymerization catalysts for lactide polymerization having a general molecular formula (M)(OC6Rs)n(OH-R’)m.
- The Group 4 metal (Ti, Zr Hf) aryloxy compounds are synthesized from Ti(O-iPr)4, Zr(O-iPr)4(HO-iPr) or Hf(O-tBu)4 and several phenols having different substituents on the phenyl ring, 1:4 stoichiometric ratio in toluene, employing the alcoholysis route.
- The synthesized aryloxy compounds have been characterized thoroughly by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) and their purity has been assured by correct elemental analysis values.
