Consultancy Projects @IIT Madras

Industries and other organizations can reach out to IIT Madras to solve their problems or meet any type of technical requirements in most of the areas of Engineering, Technology, Science, Humanities or Management. Institute can handle such requests from the industries and others via Consultancy mode through its available expertise (faculty members) and research facilities. The Following Modes of Engagement are possible:

Institutional Consultancy (IC):

These are specific assignment that can be executed readily utilising the professional knowledge and expertise of the faculty and facilities of the Institute.

Retainer Consultancy (RC):

Expertise of faculty is utilized by retaining them as consultants for advice / guidance on any aspect of interest to the Industries / Till mutually agreed  duration. Over the years many industries in India & Aboard have utilized this services of Capabilities of IITM researchers and benefited by them. 

Research Based Industrial Projects (RBIP):

Projects which require applied research fall under this category. Under RBIP, an industry or a group of industries can jointly sponsor a project of interest to them in an area where they agree to share the know-how generated. The project duration would be for a period ranging from six months to three years.

Technology Transfer (TT) :

TT projects are executed upon successful Intellectual Property/Patent Technology Licensing and Monetization agreements. The project duration would be for a period ranging between life of patent or approx. 5 years with associated terms like Exclusive/Non-Exclusive, Down payment, Annual Payment and Royalties.
